Last year indie developer Team Junkfish announced a new horror videogame named Monstrum that would support the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). It’s been a long road towards release since then, but Monstrum hit Steam earlier in 2015, albeit with that VR support in a Beta stage. Full Oculus Rift integration was promised for later down the line, however, and today Team Junkfish is making good on that promise. The latest update for the title finally brings HMD support to the videogame.

Update v1.3 makes some ‘minor’ fixes to that VR support as well as adding it to the main version of the title. A full changelog can be seen below, although the new update is said to also add audio logs, new story elements, new notes and more.

Monstrum is a first-person experience in which players must escape a derelict ship as they’re hunted by one of a number of different types of monsters. The experience is procedurally generated meaning that, each time they die, players will find themselves in a new layout. For those looking to pick the title up now that VR support is in, it’s on sale for £5.99 GBP over on Green Man Gaming.

VRFocus will continue to follow Monstrum closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.

Known Issues

– The “vertex lit rendering” confirmation dialogue does not work correctly with the controller. Workaround: Use mouse controls

– Pressing left on the Dpad to change sensitivity changes the highlighted button (pause menu only). Workaround: Use mouse controls to change the setting.

– The “play log” button can not be remapped in the menu; remapping another control to V overrides that control preventing the player from listening to the logs in-game. Workaround: reset controls to default, do not map another function to V.

– Using the mouse and controller at the same time in the options menu can cause multiple highlights

– “Back” button on the journal in the collectables menu can not be selected with the controller. Workaround: Press B (xbox 360 controller)

– OSX: Dpad support not working in the collectables menu. Workaround: use the thumbstick.

– Oculus: Rendering issue with the 3D cursor in the collectables menu

There may be some unknown Mac compatibility issues. Please let us know if you run into any problems!
