The virtual reality (VR) debut of the hugely successful Minecraft franchise arrived earlier this year on Samsung Gear VR. However, many fans have been waiting to see the videogame arrive on that mobile format’s tethered cousin, the Oculus Rift. According to a representative of Mojang, the wait shouldn’t be all that long.

The closest we have come to a release date for the Oculus Rift compatible version of Minecraft is a ‘coming soon’ update on Mojang’s official Minecraft VR website. But today, Tommaso Checchi, Lead Developer of Minecraft Pocket Edition and Minecraft Windows 10 Edition, offered an update via his personal Twitter account:

“I’m back in the office and I just played a lot of Minecraft for the Oculus Rift… it’s definitely ready for release :)” stated Checchi in a tweet today.

VRFocus recently reported on the fact that the Oculus Rift compatible version of Minecraft would in fact be released as an update to the existing Minecraft Windows 10 Edition, which has already been available for over a year. This update will bring native support to the videogame, along with numerous made-for-VR tweaks.

Mojang: Minecraft for Oculus Rift ‘Definitely ready for release’

The Gear VR version of the videogame was very well received, with VRFocus stating in our Minecraft: Gear VR Edition review: “Minecraft: Gear VR Edition is exactly what it needed to be.”

As soon as confirmation of a release date for the Oculus Rift support for Minecraft Windows 10 Edition arrives VRFocus will report back. In the meantime, you can find out just what those VR adaptations are in VRFocusguide to everything Minecraft VR.
