When Microsoft announced the launch date and price for the ‘development edition’ of its mixed reality (MR) device, HoloLens, at the recent Windows 10 Devices event in October many baulked at the $3,000 USD price point. Despite this Microsoft has said its been happy with the pre-order interest from developers. The head-mounted display (HMD) will be available to pre-order in January 2016, and to wet those appetites for the HMD an employee working with the headset has released a teaser video of her project.
Andrea Chang a sound designer at Microsoft who has previously worked at Electronic Arts (EA), unveiled on Twitter a 10 second demo video over the weekend. The video shows someone (dressed similar to a mime) very tentatively walking across a keyboard. With each step onto a key the corresponding note is sounded. A twitter user responded to the teaser, admiring it but adding that it would have been even better with the characters footsteps on the keys matching the notes played. To which Chang replied: “They are the correct notes! I matched them to his footsteps.”
There’s been a flurry of news recently surrounding the headset with a report that 60 engineers in Israel have been fired, and Kudo Tsunoda who has a long history with Microsoft’s Xbox brand has now headed over to the HoloLens division.
