As the New Year approaches, Medellín gears up for a spectacular celebration. The city’s sky will be illuminated by a dazzling display of fireworks, a tradition deeply rooted in the local culture. The tradition of “tirar pólvora” (setting off fireworks) has become a yearly ritual, filling the air with deafening sounds as the clock strikes midnight. Despite the thunderous noise, the spectacle remains captivating, thanks to the vibrant lights that paint the night.

Video recorded with Insta360 One X, originally captured in a 360-degree format and the timelapse option (with a shot every half a second, ISO in 1600 and shutter in 1/120), then edited with the free capture option of #Insta360 Studio 2023 to create the effect of a mini planet and to modify speed (2X, so the final speed was 32X – 16X from the timelapse – making a half and hour shooting in a one-minute video). I have used Adobe Premiere Pro to add the effect “fade in and fade out to black”.

The video was taken from the Laureles neighborhood and covers a large part of the southeast, east, north, northwest, and west of Medellin. It was captured between 11:45 pm on the night of December 31, 2023, and 12:15 am on January 1, 2024.
