LG Electronics launched its new smartphone and revealed its virtual reality (VR) accessories, dubbed as ‘friends’, during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this year, including a 360-degree camera and what looks like a pair of VR glasses as its own head-mounted display (HMD). The LG G5 smartphone is now available for purchase in the US in stores.
The mobile communication company has designed the phone to be up-to-date with the likes of Samsung who has released the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge along with the Gear VR, but what LG has done is partner up its phone with the its LG 360 VR lightweight glasses as well as a 360 cam which can all be used with the phone. The main feature of the phone which acts as the G5’s USP is its aluminium body and modular type design which allows an easy battery swap, which will be useful with the high power usage of the camera and HMD.
Juno Cho, President and CEO of LG Electronics, said in a press release: “The LG G5 and LG Friends have captured the imagination of consumers everywhere with its engaging take on mobile technology,” He is proud of what LG has achieved, going on to say: “Modularity has been talked about for years but no one was able to consumerize it until now, and we’re happy to take on the mantle.”
The smartphone is available in stores such as AT&T, Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile Stores, B&H, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon. Those who order the G5 before 17th April will get a free extra battery and battery charging cradle which can also be used as a portable battery charger.
