Tower defence videogames are well loved within the strategy genre as they’re usually easy to pick up and play, with the best titles offering lots of depth and replayability. Virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMDs) have already seen a few appear and now the HTC Vive will soon get another. Bolvërk Games’ Kittypocalypse launches later today on Steam with hordes of alien cats to destroy.

Set across 15 islands it’s up to players to annihilate a race of wide eyed evil alien kittens from reining destruction down upon your base. As with any tower defence videogame players will have a selection of armaments at their disposal to wipe the evil kittens of the planet. These include: Lasers, Gatling guns, Tesla towers, Missile batteries and more, all with their own respective advantages and disadvantages as well as 50+ weapon upgrades available to fine tune defences and achieve success in the higher levels. There’s a full campaign mode to work though or for quicker matches players can jump straight into a Skirmish.

The title originally launched for the Oculus Rift back in May which VRFocus reviewed, but for the HTC Vive version Bolvërk Games has redesigned the videogame controls to make the best use of the Room Scale tracking system.

The studio has previously confirmed that Kittypocalypse will also be coming to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE’s) PlayStation VR HMD, although Bolvërk Games has yet revealed if the videogame will be a launch title.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Kittypocalypse reporting back with any further announcements.
