January is a gloomy month in the UK, cold temperatures, rain and snow are felt across the country which is why travel search engine Kayak is setting up a special single day virtual reality (VR) experience.

Taking place at Gallery Different on Percy Street, London, the ‘Virtual Voyage’ event will be free and will open to the public from 10.30am to 8pm GMT on Blue Monday, 18th, January supposdly the most depressing day of the year. The VR experience will take users on an immersive holiday to a far-flung sun-soaked location. Attendees will be able to feel the sand between their toes – for real – whilst the VR aspect is provided by the latest VR technology.

Annie Wilson, VP of European Business Development at KAYAK said in a statement: “Whilst many Brits won’t be getting away until the summer, the research clearly shows that many are very much in need of a break during January. That is why we have created the Virtual Voyage – to give Brits a little bit of sunshine on the most depressing day of the year. At KAYAK, we have always used technology to help Brits discover new and exciting places to explore and this takes things a step further by utilising the latest virtual reality technology to do so.”

The ‘Virtual Voyage’ is a 360-degree experience shot using six high definition (HD) cameras, to create the immersive video content. VRFocus will continue to bring you the latest VR news from around the world as details are announced.
