Cinematic virtual reality (VR) production studios Jaunt and RYOT, who have created immersive experiences like Inside North Korea VR with ABC News and Seeking Home: Life Inside the Calais Migrant Camp with The Associated Press respectively, have now announced a joint venture. The two companies have revealed a joint five-part VR documentary series, Holy Land, filmed and directed by award-winning filmmaker and RYOT co-founder David Darg.
Holy Land is a series that aims to transport viewers to the Middle East, allowing them to observe the confluence of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Jerusalem: Earth’s Holy Intersection, and The Walls of Jerusalem, are the first two episodes available and can be downloaded free on the Jaunt VR app for Android, iOS, and Samsung’s GearVR head-mounted display (HMD). The other episodes will be released over the next few weeks.
“Virtual reality represents a new frontier in documentary filmmaking – one where viewers can join you on the journey and feel the experience like never before,” said Bryn Mooser, co-founder of RYOT in a statement. “This series will transport viewers to the Holy Land to experience some of the most impressive feats of human creation while also enveloping them in a region that has been stricken by decades of cultural conflict and tension. Through this immersive medium, we can enjoy the amazing creations of mankind and inspire greater cultural understanding.”
