Back in June 2015 VRFocus reported that indie developer Buffalo Vision’s upcoming virtual reality (VR) experience, Irrational Exuberance, was now coming to the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD), having originally been planned for the Oculus Rift. The experience will be taking full advantage of the SteamVR system, created by the HMD’s co-creator, Valve. But could this space odyssey still arrive on its original platform? And what about a possible version for PlayStation 4 with support for PlayStation VR? According to the developer, both versions could happen.

The studio’s Ben Vance said as much in an interview with VRFocus that will be published in full later this week. “Both platforms are a definite possibility!” the developer replied when asked if his title could come to these HMDs. “It really depends on how closely the capabilities match the Vive. I would love to support all the major platforms, and I think both PS Move controllers and Oculus Touch could be fun to work with. But it really depends on tracking volume and quality. Irrational Exuberance has gone from a seated, gamepad-oriented experience to a standing, active experience, and I don’t think it can go back!”

Irrational Exuberance is a sci-fi title that takes after popular space epics such as 2001: A Space Odyssey and more. Players will find themselves exploring a distant region of space, taking in sights and sounds that are often fantastical in nature. As already mentioned, the title makes full use of SteamVR, meaning it offers Room Scale user-tracking in which a player can walk around an area in real life and have those movements replicated in-game. It also means the title utilises two position tracked controllers that will come with the HTC Vive itself.
