Do you need an ND Filter for Insta360 Luna Ultra? I shot the Insta360 Luna Ultra with and without ND filters so you can see them side by side, and you can decide for yourself!

WHAT ARE ND FILTERS?
To create cinematic videos, you need natural-looking motion blur. To get that natural blur, set your shutter speed around twice as fast as your frame rate. (If your frame rate is 25fps, set your shutter to 1/50. If your frame rate is 30fps, set shutter speed to 1/60, etc.) But in most cases, it’s too bright in daylight to have a shutter speed set to 1/50 or 1/60, especially for cameras with wide apertures. To be able to use those shutter speeds in daylight, you need an ND filter, which are like sunglasses for your camera, or like being able to use a much narrower f-stop. ND filters are available for Insta360 Luna Ultra. The one I got was the K&F Variable ND filter (ND2-32), which can act as:
ND2 (1 stop ND filter)
ND4 (2 stops)
ND8 (3 stops)
ND16 (4 stops)
ND32 (5 stops)

ND filter used: K&F Variable ND ND2-32, set to ND32 (5 stops).
COLOR CAST
YES there is a color cast. The K&F Variable ND desaturates the blue, so I compensated by increasing the saturation of the blue in DaVinci Resolve using Color Warper.
AUTOFOCUS
I had no problems autofocusing on either the 1x lens or the 3x lens, with both set to ND5 in sunny-16 conditions.
CONVENIENCE
The K&F Variable ND filter is thin enough to let the Luna Ultra turn off normally even with the filter attached. The filter can be stored in either slot of the Luna case.
