Until early last year VRFocus had been reporting on the progress of indie developer Innervision Games’ virtual reality (VR) title Ethereon, puzzle-based experience for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). Since then all has been quiet, but now the developer has revealed its latest project Thunderbird, another puzzle title but this time for the HTC Vive and PlayStation VR headsets.

Thunderbird takes its inspiration from renowned point-and-click style adventures Myst and Riven. The latter having been worked on by Innervision Games’ founder Tony Davidson. Davidson commented to UploadVR about the title saying: “At the core of the experience we are trying to carry the player from a more mundane reality to a fantastical one… [which will] culminate in a more cinematic and passive experience.”

Adding that, as players delve into the videogame it will: “lead you to the heart of the world for an encounter with mythological creatures of epic proportions.”

The title is due to be released as an episodic adventure the first being called Thunderbird: The Legend Begins, due out sometime mid-2016. Subsequent episodes will have a release cycle of four to six months, with a running time of around a hour the developer suggests.

Thunderbird: The Legend Begins has also been nominated for Best VR Experience at the Vision AR/VR Summit 2016 Awards and VRFocus will continue to follow the latest developments for Thunderbird, reporting back with any new announcements.
