At the Bethesda Showcase in Los Angeles today, Bethesda Softworks revealed two technical demonstrations of the company’s virtual reality (VR) based on hugely popular franchises. The recently released DOOM will offer a ‘virtual tour’ experience while Fallout 4 has been confirmed for launch on HTC Vive next year. Utilising developer id Software’s proprietary tools, the former has been developed with the idTech 6 videogame engine.

idTech 6 is the engine powering the recently released DOOM and a number of Besthesda Softworks’ other popular franchises, such as the upcoming QUAKE Champions. No other titles have yet been confirmed as utilising the idTech 6 engine, however it has been revealed that it’s this same technology powering the newly announced Bethesda VR catalogue.

“A totally unique look at the very latest in graphics and true next-gen rendering from our idTech 6 engine,” stated Pete Hines, Global Vice President of PR and Marketing at Bethesda Softworks, when speaking of the newly announced DOOM VR technical demonstration.

No official release for the DOOM technical demonstration has yet been announced, however Fallout 4 was confirmed for release on HTC Vive in 2017. It should be noted that Bethesda Softwork’s parent company, Zenimax Media, has an ongoing legal battle with Oculus VR regarding the hiring of John Carmack, former programmer at and co-founder of id Software, back in 2013. The company previously stated however, that this would not prevent internal studios from developing their own VR projects.

Bethesda Softworks is offering hands-on sessions with both of these two technical demonstrations at their showcase today and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details
