With smartphone companies like Samsung and HTC already cemented as major players in the virtual reality (VR) space and other companies such as LG also chipping in, it’s no surprise to see more firms announce new VR products. To that end, Chinese group Huawei has today revealed its own VR device, seemingly titled Huawei VR, which looks to be another mobile-based offering that will support its latest smartphone, the Huawei P9.
The kit was revealed today at a Chinese press conference for the new phone. Few details have been confirmed right now, although Techradar notes that the kit is likely to go up against Samsung’s own mobile based offering, the Gear VR. There’s no word on a possible release or price for the kit, though hopefully it will be towards the lower end should it rely on the tried and true formula of using the phone to power and display VR experiences.
It’s also not clear what kind of compatibility the kit will have with phones. Will it only run on the Huawei P9 or could it support all devices?
