During the busy Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2016 last week there was a bunch of new videogame reveals for the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD). One of those came in the form of Pool Nation VR, a virtual reality (VR) edition of Cherry Pop Games’ popular pool franchise. Today sees the release of the GDC 2016 official trailer for the new project, which can be seen below.

Pool Nation VR takes the realistic aesthetics of Pool Nation, then using the immersive Room Scale technology of the HTC Vive, expands on the premise even further. So you can play standard pool if you want, or switch to darts, but there’s much more to do than that. Smash a few beer bottles if you want, or use them to set up trick shots. Add coasters, chairs or whatever else you can get your hands on to test your skills on the table.

The motion tracked controllers are fully utilised to enable players to grab and manoeuvre around the table to play anyway they like. All while set in a trendy bar created in Unreal Engine 4.

Cherry Pop Games has collaborated with developer Perilous Orbit in creating Pool Nation VR, that has had prior experience working in the field of VR. There’s been no official release date announced, but VRFocus will bring you further details when they’re released.
