The 2016 Consumer Electronics Shows (CES) is set to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada later this week, gathering almost the entirety of the tech industry to showcase the latest gadgets and advancements. Virtual reality (VR) is set to play a big part in this year’s show, with HTC in particular promising to showcase a ‘very, very big breakthrough‘ for its HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD), made in partnership with Half-Life developer Valve. But HTC’s own showcase won’t be the only place to see the upcoming kit at this years’ show. Far from it, in fact.

The company has recently posted a new blog in which it has detailed various groups that will be demonstrating experiences and hardware using the upcoming HMD at this week’s show. Included in the list is the Virtuix Omni omni-directional treadmill and the VirZOOM biking experience. Alienware, meanwhile, will be showcasing a VR piece known as ‘The Lonely Whale’, while Intel will be featuring ‘live Vive performances’ at its booth and LVCC Lobby. 3D Dream Sketcher from Dassault Systemes will also be on display as will Fox’s The Martian VR experience, which is based off of Ridley Scott’s 2015 sci-fi movie. Audi’s virtual car showroom will be there too along with showcases from AMD, CyberPowerPC, Envelop VR, EVGA, HP, HyperX, iBuyPowerPC, MSI, Nidec, Nvidia, and Zotac, all of which will be using the HTC Vive.

What’s notable here is that, in the past, many of these exhibitors would have been using the Oculus Rift’s first and second development kits (DK1 and DK2) to showcase their products, if not the Crescent Bay prototype. This is something of a coup on HTC and Valve’s part, then, as it’s the first show to see the HTC Vive being used on such a wide scale.

VRFocus itself is at CES, and will be bringing you all of the latest news on the kit.
