Back in December 2015 VRFocus reported on the mention of ‘Viveport’ from HTC, the creator of the HTC Vive virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). This seemed to be a storefront for VR videogames and experiences that support the upcoming device, comparable to Oculus VR’s planned store for the Oculus Rift and what’s already available for the Gear VR. Now it appears that, a few days ahead of the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, January, the company has actually launched Viveport.

According to Reddit user Mrunited12 – developer of what appears to be an upcoming VR title named HoloSword – HTC Viveport is now available for developers to explore. Below are a handful of screenshots of the service that the developer has taken, which were reportedly taken from the software development kit (SDK) for the tech. So far the platform seems to consist of the mentioned storefront, a library area for purchased content and a setting page which features options such as ‘Launch on Startup’, ‘Language’ and ‘Default Install Location’.

Of course, it’s going to be a while before consumers can start to use Viveport as intended, as the HTC Vive isn’t expected to launch until April 2016. Pre-orders for the kit are set to arrive in February, which we now know is a month after pre-orders for the Oculus Rift launch on 6th January 2016. A final date and price for either device is yet to be revealed.
