The next couple of weeks will see both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMDs) launch across the globe. One question consumers who pre-ordered the HTC Vive headset have taken to Twitter to ask is whether the 5th April launch date will mean shipments begin on that day. HTC has responded by saying that the date is when HMDs will start arriving.

Daniel O’Brien, HTC Vice President of Virtual Reality (VR) took to Twitter to reassure  eager consumers that they should start seeing their purchases land on the launch date. When a post asked about a rumour on shipments being delayed till the end of April, start of May he responded: “what a terrible rumour. Customers start receiving April 5th as promised. Cannot wait!” When a second post asked for clarification on 5th April: “start arriving” O’Brien said.

Another query was on international orders, to which he commented: “April 5th starts the consumer arrival of commercial HTC Vive’s globally. Hope that is clear.” So that should be good news for everyone who got their pre-orders in early when they launched on 29th February.

For anyone looking to order a HTC Vive now, they’ll be looking at a shipping date of May at the earliest, via the website. HTC also recently announced several retail partners for the UK, enabling customers to try before they buy and also saving the cost of delivery.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of the HTC Vive, reporting back any further updates.
