Cinematic car shots usually require a chase car with a customized rig that cost thousands of dollars. You’ll also need a camera crew, at least a driver for the camera car and a cameraman to control the camera rig. But it’s possible to get cinematic car shots by yourself! In this video, I’ll show you how to create cinematic car videos that look like they were shot by a chase car, by yourself, with a cheap custom car rig.
It starts out with an Insta360 One X or other stabilized 360 camera, and a Bushman monopod. My friend Ben Claremont Life in 360 Photo made review of the Bushman monopod and called it the “Best 360 monopod yet.” And it’s great! But in this video I’ll show you how to use it for cinematic car shots using the Insta360 One X, an affordable stabilized 360 camera and 3PV camera that can capture a third person view.
This rig works with any stabilized 360 camera but works best with Insta360 One X because it is very stable, has very good detail, and is very light. It also features “Insta360 Stats,” an optional overlay for your video that lets you display speed, heading, path, distance, slope, and elevation. (You can display any combination of the indicators.)
