At the Samsung Developers Conference (SDC), San Francisco, today, Samsung revealed the official release date of the Gear 360 camera. Originally revealed in February, the Gear 360 is an integrated camera that allows for 360 degree video to be recorded, edited and uploaded directly from a Samsung smartphone handset.
The Gear 360 camera features two F/2.0 fish-eye lenses that each capture 195 degree content, recorded in high resolution (3840×1920) in MP4 format. These two images are automatically stitched by the device’s accompanying smartphone app, and can then be edited and uploaded for sharing. The device can shoot up to seven hours of content on a 128GB microSD card.
Announced by Andrew Dickerson, Director of Software Development at Samsung, the Gear 360 camera will launch on 29th April 2016. The device will only be available online to begin with, though VRFocus will keep you updated with any future retail release.
