Next month in Cologne, Germany, the largest videogame event on the European calendar will be taking place, Gamescom. The event is open to trade and public alike, featuring companies from across the globe. Also taking place at the same time will be the Game Developers Conference (GDC) Europe focused just on those working in the industry. The event will include a broad selection of talks with a couple focused on virtual reality (VR).

The two VR sessions revealed so far are Data and Insights in the VR Market, and No Text,No Tutorial: Fully Embracing Human-Centered Design in VR.

Data and Insights in the VR Market will be hosted by Patrick Walker, Vice President of Insights & Analytics at EEDAR. Walker leads a team of data-driven game industry experts who consult with leading game companies to increase product quality, guide strategic decisions, and maximize efficiency and revenue. The description for the talk Walker states he’ll: “present a prediction on the future of VR by examining consumer gaming motivations and engagement in early VR adopters in the context of other platforms and business models.”

The other VR focused session, No Text,No Tutorial: Fully Embracing Human-Centered Design in VR, comes from Kayla Kinnunen, Game Director, Roadhouse Interactive. Kayla is currently leading VR and augmented reality (AR) product development at the studio, having spent 15 years in game development. In this talk

the description states: “VR, and especially tracked controller VR, requires a dramatic shift in UX development. Many common UX constructs were built for a 2D screen and don’t work in three dimensional space. At first glance this can present a huge challenge to VR developers. This talk will review trailblazers in the field; discuss human-centered design principles and explain how to take these principles further in our upcoming title.”

GDC Europe 2016 will run from 15th – 16th August in Congress-Centrum Ost Koelnmesse, Cologne, Germany. Anyone who purchases a GDC Europe 2016 All Access, Student, and Indie Games Summit pass will get a 3-day Trade Visitor Pass to Gamescom 2016.

VRFocus will be there to bring you all the latest news and announcements from the event.
