Formula E has been embracing virtual reality (VR) and 360-degree content of its past races and highlights, including the 360-degree feature put out earlier this year. Racing VR has now been taken further with Formula E races now to be recreated in VR and will be available for most head-mounted displays (HMD).

The downloadable experiences fans can get, with plans for real-time races this summer, will include points of view from any of the 18 drivers’ POVs, as well as the freedom to roam the racing circuits, and the audio of the race broadcasts. In order for Formula E to be captured virtually, it has partnered with Virtually Live, which uses trackers and recognition software to make it all happen.

These VR recreations will be available starting with next weekend’s race in Long Island, which will build up for the series’ second season in July, and will be free of charge until next season. Fans can download the VR races in the days after the race for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR, but not for mobile-based HMDs such as the Samsung Gear VR or Google Cardboard.
