Explore Community Created VR Content with VRAIS

Virtual reality (VR) isn’t the solitary experience many outside the industry think it is. There are plenty of developers around the world exploring the social aspects of VR, and how the technology can bring people together in new immersive ways. Mikavaa is one studio that has created an app that aims to build a community of artists, to share and nurture a VR space. That app is VRAIS ( VR Awesome in Space).

“It started as a VR viewer app for our internal workflow,” said Kay Siegert, co-founder of Mikavaa in a statement. “But we soon realised that this has the potential for something much bigger, a VR test environment and image viewer for 3D artists as well as a community powered public gallery that anyone can explore with their mobile phone. So we teamed up with blendFX, a company producing high profile 3D content, and created VRAIS – VR Awesome in Space.”

The app was first announced at the Blender Conference 2015 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It’s available to download for iOS and Android smartphones, working with numerous head-mounted displays (HMDs) on the market including Google Cardboard, Merge VR, Zeiss VR One, Homido and many more.

Artists wishing to use VRAIS to showcase their work simply sign up, upload their VR renderings, then view them straight away on their smartphone. Artworks can then be submitted to the public gallery, which need to go through an approval process to ensure the guidelines for the platform are met.

“We added basic statistics functions which show how many people viewed your artwork and how many favourised it. And we are already working on more in-depth analysis right now,” added Simeon Conzendorf, product manager of VRAIS.

VRFocus will continue to follow the latest updates to VRAIS as new announcements are made.
