The Sundance Film Festival began last week in Park City, Utah, with virtual reality (VR) and 360-degree films playing an important part as they help to showcase and promote the new entertainment medium. To add to this VR production company IM360 has created an app for the festivals New Frontier exhibition that will allow users to immerse themselves in the experiences being shown.

Free to download for Android users the Sundance VR app offers access to 11 New Frontier titles including; Waves of Grace from Chris Milk’s production studio Vrse; Stonemilker – a collaboration between Vrse.works, Andrew Thomas Huang and Björk; Fabulous Wonder.Land, a music video created by The Royal National Theatre and horror experience Sisters.

Currently though VRFocus could only access a small selection of the listed titles to view, with the rest linking to an information page on the Sundance website. And it seems other users have been experiencing similar issues. IM360 has said it’ll be releasing an update to sort out these problems, reports Variety.

For the videos that do work they each have to be downloaded individually before viewing with a mobile head-mounted display (HMD) like Google Cardboard or Merge VR.

VRFocus will continue to bring you any further updates on the Sundance Film Festival’s New Horizons exhibition, as it continues through to the weekend.
