The Samsung consumer launch of the Gear VR mobile virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) has allowed users to properly experience VR in their own homes. But the device has been used by companies and institutions across the world for a broad range of interactive applications for some time now. The latest sees a collaboration between AT&T, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Carnival Corporation bringing a VR cruise experience to AT&T customers.

Starting on Friday 19th, February 2016, visitors going into select AT&T stores will find a Gear VR demonstration set up where they can enjoy the sights and sounds of a warm and sunny cruise vacation. Available in 133 AT&T stores across 37 US states, the VR content has been exclusively developed by Carnival Corporation and its 10 global cruise line brands.

“Our customers know they can come to an AT&T store to experience the future of a connected life. The Samsung Gear VR is awesome, especially with this great content from Carnival. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to show it off,” said Brian Shay, president, Retail Sales and Distribution, AT&T in a statement.

“Samsung Gear VR delivers an innovative way for people to transport themselves to far-away locations from around the world,” said Tim Baxter, president of Samsung Electronics America. “Now, people can immerse themselves into a one-of-a-kind cruise line adventure, powered by virtual reality.

There’s also a competition where consumers will have a chance to win one of 10 seven-day cruises on Carnival Corporation’s Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line brands. Checkout the VR experience then sign-up in-store  or visit www.vrcruisewlcl.com. The promotion will run from 19th February to 11th March 2016.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of the Gear VR, reporting back with any new announcements.
