Mavic used to use the tried and tested pawl and spring system for their freehubs, but have now moved on. They have replaced their IST-4 system and now use their Instant Drive 360 free hub. It uses a dual ratchet system and 40 teeth to give excellent engagement. It’s more efficient, more reliable and smoother rolling.
