SCS Software has supported virtual reality (VR) compatibility for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) for sometime now. Its popular PC videogames Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator could be used with the DK2 version of the device, and now the developer has confirmed the addition of further support by implementing the Oculus software development kit (SDK) version 1.3.

Stating on Steam’s forum for Euro Truck Simulator 2, the developer said: “Unless something unexpected happens, ETS2 and ATS builds using 1.3 should be available latter today.” Several hours latter the studio confirmed this by adding: “Oculus betas for both ETS2 and ATS now contain 1.3.0 based build. The previous version is currently stored in oculus_07 beta if you need it for some reason.” This will now allow those who’ve received their new Oculus Rift CV1 HMDs to fully play the titles with hopefully no issues.

And for HTC Vive users there’s also an OpenVR feature which will allow them to play the videogames within the headset. The studio noted: “There is a -openvr start option used instead of the -oculus one which should launch the game in OpenVR mode.”

Euro Truck Simulator 2 launched way back in 2012, allowing players to take to European roads in a variety of different rigs. While American Truck Simulator is the newest title to arrive, being launched in February this year.

VRFocus will continue to bring you the latest VR updates from SCS Software as announcements are made.
