In April VRFocus reported on Epic Games supporting the Nordic Game Jam with a special award, called ‘Totally Epic Unreal Engine Award’, which included a prize pool featuring HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMDs). The studio will also feature at the Nordic Game 2016 event taking place at Slagthuset Convention Center in Malmö, Sweden, on 18th – 20th May, with a keynote speech from the company’s founder Tim Sweeney.

Sweeney will be kicking off the conference with a talk on ‘The Future of Graphics & Game Development’, giving insights and predictions on programming, virtual reality (VR) and more. After which there will be a further four panels on VR, with one featuring seven panellists discussing ‘The State of VR’. The panellists will be; Annika Gustafson, Executive director of BoostHbg; Carl-Arvid Ewerbring, Co founder/Producer at Resolution Games; Dario Luis Sancho Pradel, Lead Programmer at Crytek; Heather Kelley, Kokoromi Member; Katie Goode, Creative Director at Triangular Pixels; Thomas Bärtschi, Audio Evangelist at Audiokinetic and Ville Kivistö, CEO & Co-founder at Mindfield Games.

The following two days will feature a further eight panels on VR, covering topics like: designing for VR, why videogames fail and immersive audio for VR.

On Thursday 19th, the Nordic Game Awards will be taking place, celebrating the best in Nordic videogame design. Just one VR title has made it onto the roster, CCP Games’ EVE Gunjack in the Best Technology category.

VRFocus will bring you any further details from Nordic Game 2016 as announcements are made.
