This year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) will play a bigger focus than ever on virtual reality (VR) technology, with the Virtual Reality Developers Conference (VRDC) running alongside it from 14th – 18th March 2016. Developers from across the globe will gather to talk about designing content for head-mounted displays (HMDs) and show off their own work on the expo floor. As if all of that weren’t enough, this year will also feature the first ever GDC VR Lounge, putting major HMDs on display for people to come and try out.

Unreal Engine 4 creator Epic Games has curated content for the area. The lounge will be located in the West Hall of the Moscone Convention Center and feature all the major VR HMDs. That includes the HTC Vive, PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and Gear VR units. On display will be Gunfire Games’ Chronos, Solfar Studios’ EVEREST VR, Limitless’ Gary the Gull, Milica Zec and Winslow Turner Porter III’s Giant, Baobab Studios’ Invasion!, VRWERX’s Paranormal Activity VR, Survios’ Raw Data, Penrose Studios’ The Rose and I, Create VR’s The Walk VR, and Innervision VR’s Thunderbird.

On top of the VR Lounge, several major VR events are planned for this GDC. The first is Oculus VR’s preview event on 13th March, where it’s promised to show off the latest Oculus Rift titles with a focus on multiplayer experiences. Following that, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) will be providing an update on its PlayStation VR kit – still to get a release date and price – on 15th March. The HTC Vive will also have a developer event during the week. Expect plenty of updates on each of the major HMDs, then.

VRFocus will be at GDC to deliver the latest updates on VR technology.
