There’s been an influx of music videos that feature 360 degree technology recently. From the Foals to The Donnies The Amys and Duende Musica, immersive virtual reality (VR) videos give a unique twist to the normal standard. And now Canadian singer/song-writer The Weeknd has collaborated with Eminem to remix his chart-topper The Hills, which features a 360 degree music video.

After creating The Foals VR music video – Mountain at my Gate, renowned director Nabil and designer Tino Schaedler of Optimist Design, with their company United Realities, have developed the immersive video which has launched on The Weeknd’s YouTube channel as well as VEVO’s YouTube channel.

The 2 minute long VR music video features Eminem’s remix with The Weeknd as part of a project commissioned by Apple Music for the MTV music awards. The viewer can follow The Weeknd’s path off stage and through the stage door outside to be surrounded by a surreal, dream-like scene. Filmed in slow motion, the video includes a burning car that creates a fire sequence with creature-like fireballs shooting into the night sky projecting aurora borealis style patterns.

The 360 degree VR video can be viewed via a compatible browser and controlled with a mouse or the WASD keys, it can also be viewed on a smartphone with the YouTube app for the 360 degree experience. If you own a Google Cardboard or similar head-mounted display (HMD) you can view the video through the YouTube app for a more immersive experience.

The video can be seen below and VRFocus will continue to report on all the latest VR music videos released.
