Virtual reality (VR) fans that enjoy Frontier Developments’ popular sci-fi title, Elite: Dangerous, are holding out for the arrival of updated head-mounted display (HMD) support right now. Integration with the Oculus Rift, for example, has been put on hold due to difficulties developing for the latest versions of the software development kit (SDK), while support for the HTC Vive HMD is expected to arrive around the same time as the title’s anticipated expansion, Elite Dangerous: Horizons, next month. Those anticipating getting back into their ships in VR should also take note that recommended PC specifications for the support will be arriving soon.

Frontier Developments confirmed as much in its most recent newsletter for the title, in which it listed the standard specs as seen below. The developer will also be releasing recommended specs for those that wants to play the title in 4K. Expect both of these lists to be higher than the ones seen below given the added demands that VR and higher resolutions make.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons will be bringing a host of new features to the space-based experience. This includes planetary landings, allowing players to climb into new land-based vehicles and explore the surfaces of planets they could previously only look at from above. These new features will also be VR compatible.

VRFocus will continue to follow Elite Dangerous: Horizons closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
