There is a fast-growing list of first person shooters (FPS) to accompany the consumer releases of virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMD), and there has certainly always been an air of excitement surrounding space-based action titles. Eclipse: Defending the Motherland will be taking on these two elements in a title that will be arriving soon for both the HTC Vive consumer release, and the Oculus Rift second Development Kit (DK2).

As can be seen in the trailer featured on its Steam store page, Eclipse: Defending the Motherland is a FPS set in space where the player will go up against a varied selection of enemies, ranging from swarms of scorpions, to beefed up aliens ready to obliterate you. The title will feature three different levels which is stated so far in its development, however the information of these levels is very much limited. There will be, however, an Endless Mode, which implies a melee type of combat where there will be an ever-flowing stream of enemies to defeat.

The title will put the full use of the HTC Vive HMD room scaled gameplay to practise as this VR videogame will require an area of at least 2m X 1.5m, however there is also the choice of using a keyboard and mouse for the Oculus Rift DK2.

Eclipse: Defending the Motherland is still under much development at the moment, and is currently available for the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift DK2, and it will be free once it arrives at the Steam store this summer. However, there is currently a demo available to download for free on the Steam store page for those curious about the forthcoming title.

There will be more news regarding the official release of this title when the information presents itself. For the latest releases, news, and updates in the world of VR, make sure to check back with VRFocus.
