Eachine Viswhoop – smallest cinewhoop FPV drone for Insta360 One R or GoPro Hero

If you’re looking for the smallest cinewhoop-style FPV drone that can carry an Insta360 One R (reviewed here) or GoPro Hero, this could be it. It’s the Eachine Viswhoop, a 130mm 4S cinewhoop* with 2.5-inch propellers. And did I mention it is compatible with DJI FPV goggles?   Justin Davis of Drone Camps RC reviewed the Viswhoop and used the Insta360 One R on it, and yes it flew capably (although probably at the limits of the drone).

[*Cinewhoop is a small quadcopter, generally 3-inch propellers or smaller, with propeller guards that enable it to be flown very close to people and tight spaces, primarily for cinematic FPV as opposed to freestyle or racing FPV flying.]

Here’s Justin’s review:

Justin gave the Viswhoop a very strong recommendation with a grade of 4.8 out of 5.  The Viswhoop is indeed tempting but it does have some disadvantages.

Advantages of the Viswhoop:

1 – The smallest FPV drone that can carry an Insta360 One R or GoPro Hero that I’ve seen so far.  The Viswhoop has a wheelbase (motor to motor, diagonally) of 130mm, significantly smaller than a typical 3-inch cinewhoop (e.g. Diatone Taycan with 158mm wheelbase).  You’ll be able to fly through smaller spaces.

2 – Under 250 grams.  Even with a battery, the Viswhoop is only 215 grams, so you won’t have to register with the FAA.

3 – DJI FPV goggles will provide a super clear image.  FPV drones usually have a very low-resolution video feed from the goggles (usually lower quality than a webcam) and with a lot of static. But the Viswhoop uses the CaddX Turtle Vista so it is compatible with DJI FPV goggles, which provide a very clear, 720p video.  Please note however that unlike DJI FPV Air unit, the Turtle Vista has no DVR.  You’ll be able to record the feed but only through the DJI FPV goggles, so the recorded video won’t be as clear as that of the DJI FPV Air which records directly to DVR.  Unfortunately, the Viswhoop does not have the option to order it with the DJI FPV Air instead of the Caddx Turtle Vista.

4 – Cheapest BNF drone I’ve seen for DJI FPV goggles.  The Viswhoop is the lowest cost BNF* FPV drone that I’ve seen that can work with DJI FPV goggles.  By comparison, the iFlight BumbleBee with DJI FPV Air unit is $399.  *BNF means no assembly required – just bind it to a compatible radio transmitter.  The Viswhoop uses an Frsky D8/D16 receiver.

The disadvantages of the Viswhoop:

1 – Works only with DJI FPV Goggles.  To use the Viswhoop with FPV goggles (as opposed to line-of-sight), you’ll need to buy DJI FPV goggles, which are not cheap at $489 (Amazon, B&H, or DJI’s eBay store).

2 – Costs more than some 3-inch cinewhoops.  Justin said it is cheaper than a 3-inch cinewhoop but I’ve been able to buy a 3-inch cinewhoop for a bit less than the Eachine Viswhoop which is currently $249 at Banggood.  In particular, I bought the Diatone Taycan 4S from Pyrodrone (shipped very quickly), and it cost $220.  Maybe Justin meant 3-inch cinewhoops compatible with DJI FPV goggles, which would be true.

3 – Not as powerful as 3-inch cinewhoop.  Even though the Viswhoop is a 4S drone, its smaller 2.5-inch propellers means it will be less powerful than a 3-inch 4S cinewhoop such as the Diatone Taycan.  That’s why Justin wouldn’t attempt acrobatic moves on the Viswhoop with the Insta360 One R mounted on it.  When he reviewed the iFlight Green Hornet 3-inch cinewhoop, he did a loop and a roll (see 02:55 of his review video) even with the One R on it.

4 – Sold only at Banggood so far.  What’s bad about that?  See below.

BE CAREFUL OF BANGGOOD

Banggood has amazing prices and a very good selection but I’ve purchased two drones from Banggood, both with negative experiences and I need to warn you guys about them.  Banggood took forever to ship my first order and when I chatted with their agents, they only kept assuring me that the order would go out but nothing would happen. Their agents can be good at understanding your complaints, but they give you assurances but won’t actually do anything.  For example they’ll tell you that they will ship your order but Banggood won’t actually ship.   That happened four times with me.  I didn’t bother trying a fifth time.

When I canceled my first order with Banggood, they refunded only part of the amount.  I had paid extra to upgrade an iFlight Green Hornet to a Diatone Taycan and they didn’t refund the extra $37 that I paid.  Worse still, when I complained about that to Paypal, Paypal sided with Banggood and didn’t refund that money.   I have a second order with them (for an Eachine Cinecan, which was “in stock” at the time I ordered.).  They did ship with in a few days of my order and provided a tracking number but there has been no movement at all with the package for a week and counting (status is only “shipment ready for pickup”) so my order is in limbo.  Caveat emptor.

CONCLUSION

The Eachine Viswhoop is a very promising alternative if you want to mount your Insta360 One R or GoPro Hero on an FPV drone.  However, it does have a few disadvantages compared to 3-inch cinewhoops.  You’ll have to decide whether its advantages outweigh those issues.  Meanwhile, if you want to learn more about the Insta360 One R, see here.  If you’re curious about FPV drones and want to learn more about them, I created a Facebook page for FPV beginners.
