Back in April VRFocus reported on Codemasters Chief Game Designer Paul Coleman talking about Oculus CV1 support for DiRT Rally, saying “We’re working on official support but that takes time.” Now the team has gone into further detail with a Reddit posting detailing what they’re working on for the next patch, including virtual reality (VR) integration for the headset.

In the posting Codemasters wrote: “Just to give you an update: while we still have a little more work to do, we’ve managed to fix quite a few of the big issues you’ve raised – and we’re confident that the next patch will fix the following on PC.”

– Motion blur being applied to cars in bonnet camera and in replays (PC)

– Excessive knocking effect on steering wheels when playing rallycross

– Added Oculus 1.3 support which will re-enable Oculus gameplay (PC)

– AI for Classic and S1600 Rallycross adjusted to have more variety

– Leaderboards will no longer be blank and the difference column works

– Fixes for rain effects displaying incorrectly on some AMD cards (PC)

– Rain causing bad reflections on some windscreens

While it doesn’t fully confirm that the next patch will definitely included support for the consumer head-mounted display (HMD), it’s the best sign yet for fans. No details were given on when the patch is likely to arrive, but the team will post further announcements through Reddit.

As the latest entry in the studios racing series, DiRT Rally initially released on Steam Early Access in April 2015, before fully launching in December. Both launches included experimental support for the Oculus Rift development kit 2 (DK2) head-mounted display (HMD).

VRFocus will continue its coverage of DiRT Rally, reporting back any further updates.
