This years Develop: Brighton conference is underway and VRFocus will be liveblogging all the virtual reality (VR) related talks from the event. The next session underway comes from Martin de Ronde of Force Field VR who’ll be talking on the subject of Converting an Established Genre into VR: Pitfalls and Opportunities.

The official description for the talk reads: “Over the past few years, our studio built a name for itself with a number of acclaimed top down action games, including Gatling Gears, Halo: Spartan Assault and Halo: Spartan Strike. With the advent of VR and AR, we were curious to find out how this genre would translate to virtual reality. As is most often the case with new technology, the jump towards this new vantage point necessitated us to unlearn a lot we had learned over the past years, as well as presented us with a lot of new and interesting opportunities that could add to the established conventions of the genre. By using our Oculus Rift title that will launch later this year, this case study will walk you through the process of developing for VR and will be looking to provide you with a number of general lessons and takeaways for VR derived from specific issues encountered during development of our flagship VR game.”
