Shaun Williams and MAG Studios’ virtual reality (VR) videogame CDF Starfighter VR had a rocky road last year when it launched a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign, a week later that was cancelled and moved to IndieGoGo to utilise the rival funding company’s flexible funding. Today though CDF Starfighter VR is now available in early access form on Steam.

Along with the launch announcement the videogame has received a new update featuring several fixes and the Advanced combat simulation has been added. To top it all of there’s also a limited time discount available. Running until 12th April gamers can grab CDF Starfighter VR for £17.09 GBP rather than the regular price of £18.99, giving a saving of 10 per cent.

CDF Starfighter VR is compatible with both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMDs), which have launched within a week of each other. It’s also compatible with OSVR and the Oculus Rift DK2. The space combat simulator has been design exclusively for VR, focused on pure space-based combat. There’s five different modes for the single player (no multiplayer) including campaign, challenges and free flight.

Six different ships each with their own advantages and disadvantages will be available to suit various gameplay styles. Each ship is very different and certain ships are designed for specific roles. These are: Starfighter Type-Y, Assault Fighter, Heavy Starfighter, Scout, Heavy Gunship and Transport.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of CDF Starfighter VR, reporting back any further announcements.
