Rebellion the UK-based developer behind the virtual reality (VR) videogame Battlezone, which it is reviving from the 1980’s, has been featuring in the press recently after a number of announcements. Those reveals have been centred around PlayStation VR (PSVR), the head-mounted display (HMD) for the PlayStation 4. Announced at Paris Games Week (PGW) 2015, Battlezone will be coming first to the HMD and will also feature as a launch title. The developer has also revealed that the title will be running at 60 frames-per-second (FPS), jumping to 120FPS with reprojection.

At PGW 2015 WCCFtech spoke with Tim Jones (Head of Creative) at Rebellion regarding the frame rate for Battlezone. Jones stated that having a smooth frame rate is important for a good VR experience, which is why the developer ensured it ran at 60FPS/120FPS reprojected.

The studio maybe pushing heavily towards PlayStation VR, but it’s still a multi-platform developer. It recently reiterated support for the Oculus Rift HMD and indicated that it was ‘looking at the potential of other VR platforms too.’ This could mean support for the HTC Vive as the other main HMD due for release, but Rebellion hasn’t confirmed anything yet.

VRFocus will continue to follow the latest updates from Rebellion regarding its VR title Battlezone, reporting back any announcements.
