Today sees the launch of the highly anticipated virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) HTC Vive from Valve and HTC. Customers who pre-ordered their devices back in February should see their purchases beginning to arrive and developers have ensured there should be enough content on available to satisfy most users. And today Trion Worlds has announced a free experience to download from Steam called Atlas Reactor VR Character Viewer.

Atlas Reactor which is currently in development is a competitive team tactics videogame featuring champions known as Freelancers. Atlas Reactor VR Character Viewer allows HTC Vive owners the ability to look at the models and the work Trion Worlds has put into them. The models aren’t just static either, they’ll perform in-game abilities and taunts, in addition to previewing each character’s visual customisation options, like skins and styles.

“We believe in the promise of VR,” said Scott Hartsman, CEO of Trion Worlds. “The kinds of experiences that VR will be able to deliver speaks to the core of why many of us got into making connected worlds and games in the first place. We’re thrilled to be here for the first generation of devices that will truly begin to deliver on some of that amazing promise. We know there’s a long road ahead before millions of people have these and we want to be here creating experiences for you every step of the way. For now, we hope early VR adopters have some fun with this token of our high esteem for VR, and we salute all the other developers creating great experiences this early in its life.”

The videogame reaches closed beta on April 14th, and VRFocus will bring you further announcements as details are released.
