Today sees the arrival of the Steam VR Developer Showcase, held in Seattle, Washington. The event features a long line-up of third-party virtual reality (VR) titles for the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) some known about others newly revealed. Valve has now confirmed that all 12 of the titles on demonstration at the event will launch in 2016.
Frontier Developments’ Elite: Dangerous is already out with support, while Cloudhead Games’ The Gallery: Call of the Starseed and Phaser Lock Interactive’s Final Approach have already been confirmed as launch titles for the HTC Vive.
But that still means Northway Games’ Fantastic Contraption, Neat Corporations’ Budget Cuts, FutureTown’sCloudlands: VR Minigolf, Stress Level Zeros’ Hover Junkers, Google’s Tilt Brush, Owlchemy Labs’ Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives, Vertigo Games’ Arizona Sunshine, Audioshield and Space Pirate Trainer will now all be available at some point this year giving owners of the headset lots of content to look forward to.
The HTC Vive headset, made in partnership with Valve features a room-scale tracking system called Lighthouse that is able to detect the HMD and the two wireless controllers in an area up to 15 feet by 15 feet. The recent redesign for the HTC Vive Pre developers kit has made the controllers more ergonomic and the Vive itself slightly smaller. Pre-orders for the headset are due to open in February 2016, with the first shipments taking place in April.
