The Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2016 in March featured a impressive showcase of virtual reality (VR) technology. New announcements came from Oculus VR, HTC and Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) during that week. Running alongside GDC 2016 was the Virtual Reality Developers Conference (VRDC), and now all the talks from the event are available to view.

Accessed through the GDC Vault, the VRDC 2016 sessions amount to 56 in total. Being so many the topics involved covered a broad range of themes, VR in general, augmented reality (AR), AI, the development of certain VR videogames by their studios and much more. And these were hosted by some of the biggest names in the industry, Playful Corp (creator of Lucky’s Tale), WEVR, Unity Technologies, Crytek, Jaunt, Oculus VR and Epic Games to name a few.

GDC and VRDC 2016 were the last conferences to be held prior to the launch of the much anticipated Oculus Rift last week, and HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) this week. Oculus Rift Kickstarter backers got their devices first, with the company starting shipments to those that pre-ordered a couple of days later. The last to arrive will be SIE’s PlayStation VR headset for PlayStation 4 which has now been scheduled for October, coming in at the cheapest entry point for fully tethered VR.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of all the latest VR news from around the world.
