Last month HTC revealed the companies that it is partnering with to produce PC rigs that were ‘Virtual Reality Certified’ for use with the HTC Vive virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). HP, Alienware and MSI were revealed as partners, though only the former of these was ready to show off exactly what machines they would be offering. With pre-orders for the HTC Vive now launched, though, both Alienware and MSI have also lifted the lid on their range of PCs and even laptops for use with the device.

Alienware is offering its Area-51 rig in one of four configurations. Each features a 4th Generation Intel Core i7 Processor though, for $1,699.99 USD, you’ll get 8GB of memory with the AMD Radeon R9 370 with 4GB GDDR5. For $2,099.99 there’s 8GB of memory and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 with 4GB GDDR5. $3249.99 nets you 32GB of memory and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti with 6GB GDDR5. Finally, the most expensive option is $3,899.99 with 32GB of memory and Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 graphics with 8GB total (2x 4GB) GDDR5. The latter three options also include an Xbox controller. Options to customise a rig are also available.

MSI, meanwhile, is offering Gaming Notebooks that are VR certified. Five models are listed, three of which are different takes on the GT72S 6QF Dominator Pro G while the other two are GT80S 6QF Titan SLI models. Both include a 6th Generation Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 graphics. Prices for the kit aren’t listed. It’s important to note, however, that none of these PCs and laptops will come with the HTC Vive itself, so whatever you spend on one you’ll have to add on an extra $799 to get your hands on the kit. First shipments of the device are expected to go out on 5th April 2016.
