It’s been some time since virtual reality (VR) fans have heard from Kubold, the developer behind a number of experiences for head-mounted displays (HMDs) including the upcoming Aliens, Trolls and Dragons. Alongside that full videogame, the studio has launched several smaller experiences, including a VR mech simulator that launched in late 2014. This week, however, Kubold is returning with another short VR videogame for fans to try out. That videogame is Spell Fighter, and a trailer for it can be seen below.

As Kubold explains, Spell Fighter is a first-person experience in which players use motion controllers to cast spells and fend off enemies with a sword. At present the title uses Razer Hydra controllers, although the developer plans to add support for other controllers when it gets access to them. It also uses voice controls, so a good microphone and the Voice Attack speech recognition program are needed. Much of the experience is comprised of a ‘small sandbox’ in which players can test their abilities, although a quest does also feature.

Spell Fighter has been released as a free experience for anyone with an Oculus Rift to try out. In the meantime, it appears that work on Aliens, Trolls and Dragons is still underway.

Stay tuned to VRFocus for the latest updates on Kubold and its work in VR.
