Yesterday fans of ABC drama series Quantico got to see the mid-season premiere of the show, and to coincide with its airing the broadcaster has also launched a virtual reality (VR) experience. Created in collaboration with Lexus, the short 360-degree video allows viewers to delve into the show, getting up close to its characters.

The Quantico VR experience put viewers in the role of a new recruit who’s on a mission with FBI trainees Shelby Wyatt (Johanna Braddy) and Caleb Haas (Graham Rogers) as they track down and apprehend their assigned target. During the video two Easter eggs can be found, unlocking bonus footage from the premiere, and providing telling insight into one of the characters’ motives and connection to terrorist activities.

“Working in virtual reality opens up so many possibilities and ways to engage fans beyond what can be accomplished on a flat screen,” said Jeffrey Weinstock, vice president and creative director, ABC Integrated Marketing in a statement. “We’re literally inviting fans to be a character in the show, immersing them in this world and allowing them to explore and discover parts of the story on their own.”

“With VR, the viewer is in the car with our actors. It’s a much deeper level of engagement for a sponsor while still remaining organic and true to the storyline,” added Weinstock.

A Lexus LX 570 flagship SUV features prominently at the start and end of the experience, as it’s common for companies to team up with TV networks to add in product placement.

“In the last few years Lexus has created some remarkable virtual reality experiences to engage consumers outside of the traditional automotive channels,” said Brian Bolain, Lexus corporate marketing communications and product marketing manager. “This project allowed us to seamlessly integrate Lexus into Quantico’s storyline so fans could explore the new LX virtually while enjoying the show’s 360-degree bonus footage.”

There’s a multitude of different ways watch the VR experience, on your desktop go to QuanticoVR.com, or download the Littlstar app on Apple TV or for iOS or Android to watch on mobile with Google Cardboard. The Littlstar app is also available on Samsung Gear VR.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of the latest VR experiences, reporting back with any new announcements.
