2016 could be make or break for the virtual reality (VR) industry. The last few years of development and hype have been gearing up to now, when the head-mounted displays (HMDs) from Oculus VR, HTC and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) will finally see a consumer release. If there’s appetite for VR then that should show in the sales figures when they’re available, and its technology company Lenovo that has recently revealed some interesting sales figures.

The firm has released sales results for the Indian market for its new Lenovo K4 Note VR combo.  The combo combines the new K4 Note smartphone, and a mobile VR HMD very similar to the Gear VR from Samsung.

Lenovo India reported almost half a million people has registered for the sales promotion. The firm then set 10,000 combos for sale at a promotional price and revealed those ten thousand units went in 0.9 seconds.

While impressive, and it certainly shows the Indian market maybe keen on VR, it might also just want the smartphone and the bundle is a good deal. It’s certainly a long way from being a good indicator for the major headsets which require a greater investment through additional PC or console hardware to work.

VRFocus will continue to report on the latest VR news from across the globe, as it happens.
